Sustainability
We are changing the game, to make the world a better place.
Because that is what heroes do.
Aluminium Duffel is committed to the sustainable production of aluminium products. We move mountains to protect the world we live in by minimising the impact of our industry on the environment while meeting ever-increasing social and economic needs. We must support our employees and behave as a responsible business.
Aluminium Duffel is an innovation driver, providing solutions to make aluminium the material of choice for manufacturers and consumers who want high-performance but also greener products with a lower carbon footprint. For example, aluminium can be recycled endlessly without losing its original characteristics as a lightweight, strong and non-corroding material. And these are exactly the properties that can help us reduce the carbon footprint of cars and many other products.

Recycling
Aluminium is a lightweight, strong and non-corroding material that forms easily into a wide range of products, and it has a real competitive advantage when it comes to recycling. Only 5% of the initial energy required to smelt aluminium from its ore is needed to recycle scrap aluminium and make it ready for a second life. In addition, aluminium can be recycled endlessly without losing its original properties.
Closed-loop projects
Aluminium Duffel is aware that sustainability requires a holistic approach to make effective improvements, and we consider the entire value chain. Since 2017, Aluminium Duffel has set up closed-loop partnerships with customers to ensure that aluminium scrap does a full circle and reduces its impact on the environment.
How does this work?
- High-quality aluminium coils, sheets and strips are delivered to the customer.
- After processing in the customer’s factory, scrap and waste from these aluminium products are returned immediately to Aluminium Duffel for recycling into new rolled aluminium of the same high quality.
- The customer subsequently uses these products, made from recycled aluminium, in their production processes. More scrap means less use of primary aluminium which results in a reduction of CO₂ emissions. This is how we help our customers achieve their ambitious climate goals.
Governance
Strong corporate governance is embedded throughout the company, from our Board of Directors to our employees on the shop floor. We expect all employees at Aluminium Duffel to work in an honest and straightforward manner, demonstrating personal and professional integrity.
Aluminium Duffel obtained the ASI Performance Standard certification in 2019. This certification defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain.
We received the ASI Chain of Custody Standard certification in 2020. This standard complements the ASI Performance Standard and defines requirements for the flow of Chain of Custody material, including ASI Aluminium, through the value chain, with assurance of sustainable production at each link in the chain.

Our Aluminium Duffel Heroes started an initiative to encourage all employees to adopt a healthier lifestyle. A calendar with several sports activities is presented each year, and Aluminium Duffel sponsors the participation fees. Maybe we can’t lift cars with one finger, but we definitely know how to score in the game.
Our employees contribute time and money to several charitable causes which are coordinated through the BE-Soci-AL programme. This programme is led by our employees and encourages employees to participate in the social and charitable activities they select or donate money or goods to. Because that is what heroes do.
We embrace diversity in the workplace and foster a culture that ensures everyone feels included regardless of their race, sex, colour, national origin, gender identity or any other legally protected status. We have dedicated employees who work as counselors to support fellow employees if they experience stress, discrimination, conflicts or other unacceptable behaviour.
The company’s Academy offers employees development and training tools to guide them throughout their careers. We provide qualitative internships, apprenticeships and work experience for students.
